The Encroaching Darkness

The Encroaching Darkness

Now as the hour grows late
and darkness draws near,
a lonely man doth contemplate
his weakness and his fear.
Love and joy once he knew
are now but distant memories.
Hope and faith, he had these too,
have withered like the trees.
So with a smile on his face,
though he feels helpless,
he turns to embrace
the encroaching darkness.
